Designed as a coordinated pair, these black Peking lion statues bring bold sculptural detail to a tabletop display. Each figure is shown in a seated pose on a substantial rectangular pedestal, with expressive faces, curled manes, and layered ornamental details. One lion rests a paw on an openwork sphere, while the companion is posed with a smaller lion beneath its paw. Warm bronze- and gold-toned highlights accent the predominantly black surface, emphasizing the raised contours and facial features. With an 11-inch height and an 8-by-6-inch footprint, the statues are well suited to a console table, mantel, office credenza, or spacious bookshelf. Display them together as shown, or position them on either side of a favorite object to create a balanced arrangement. Dimensions: 8 inches wide x 6 inches deep x 11 inches high.

Behind the form

It begins in the hands.

Before a piece is painted, its shape gives it character: the shoulder of a jar, the edge of a planter, the balance of a vase. The porcelain traditions behind our collection bring together forming, hand-painted detail, glazing, and firing.

A closer look

Notice how the painted line follows the form, and how the glaze catches the light.

At home with porcelain

A place for the details to live.

We like porcelain best when it feels part of everyday life, not set apart from it. A lamp can warm a reading corner; a jar can hold its own on a console. Blue-and-white pattern feels especially at ease beside wood, linen, and a little open space.

A room note

Give a favorite piece some breathing room, then let its color echo somewhere else nearby.
